My name is Dawn Piercy, I also go by Anewgirl916 on my blog. There is reason behind this. I am a new girl and my birthday is 9/16. I have been writing Poetry and short stories for over 20 years and have also written a few screenplays. I am also working on my first book, one I would call my own science fiction autobiography.
My passion for writing is way more than just passion. It is and has been a survival tool for me for many years. Without it, I may not be here today. My Poetry has changed over the years, in all of it, lies a type of hidden truth. My life, my fears, my hopes, wishes, thoughts I would never nor could ever act out on. So within writing these poems and short stories, they become apart of me, yet at the same same time, apart from me. They help me survive in life, keep me sane and keep me going in this world.
Through despair, death, trauma, hope, and the will to survive, writing keeps me alive period. I in the past, have only written for my eyes to see. Now, I am ready to share, scare and dare others to read. Step into a world where that anyone who knows me dares not to tread, unless invited of course.
I am going to share a poem I had written to survive on a night that I was literally locked in a small dark room, with only the moon light shining down through a pane of thin glass, 10 floors up. My first husband locked me in every night. I managed to sneak a notebook and pencil in with me. Some of my Poetry and books I wrote he burned in front of me and or tore up and flushed before my eyes. I managed to write this one, I got away with it as well as with my life from him.
This poem is for ALL of the survivors out there.
---------
I am very mean
and lean,
my coat has quite
a glow;
A thousand
tricks to
show;
I am climbing up
a mountain,
watching all you know;
I have now formed back
to human
and
I am looking
into you;
I am getting
deeper,
deeper,
deeper within you;
You are reading,
hearing,
seeing,
more fond words
of mine;
You think your
only reading,
yet I am standing
close nearby;
You feel them,
hear them,
see them;
This you can't
deny;
I am getting
even closer;
I am now standing,
right behind;
I can see you,
looking,
inching,
watching all nearby;
So when you close
your eyes,
keep my words,
in mind;
You will never know
when I am near,
nor,
when I'm standing by;
As for now,
I will let you go,
as for now,
I will let you slide;
There is no more
running races,
I am no longer changing
faces;
There are no more mountains
left to climb;
I am just sitting,
in this dark and shallow
room of mine.
